LANTERN TIDE
After a lantern festival on the Sandakan waterfront, the director is found dead in a ticket office and a supposedly moored shuttle appears in the background of a volunteer's video.
Lantern Tide uses a crowded waterfront, tidal access and festival logistics to create a case where movement can happen outside the obvious public route. Water, camera coverage, GPS, crew messages and temporary event infrastructure all become part of the scene.
The premise
As the last lantern boats return to Sim Sim Waterfront, festival director Nurul Hani is found dead inside the locked ticket office. A rain-soaked cash envelope is missing, one jetty camera loses seven minutes of footage, and a volunteer's phone captures a boat where no boat should have been.
What the player is trying to establish
Use the tide, boat movements and festival records to determine who crossed Jetty Six unseen and why Nurul's contract file had to disappear before morning.
Players have to decide whether the seven-minute camera gap is the crime itself or merely cover for a different route. The strongest solution comes from comparing a boat's recorded movement with physical traces at the rear office threshold and the contract dispute Nurul was preparing to act on.
Investigation skills this case rewards
- Route reconstruction
- GPS and video comparison
- Event-logistics reasoning
- Testing physical traces against environmental conditions
Spoiler-free investigation notes
- A locked-looking office may still have more than one practical approach route.
- Treat the tide as part of the timeline, not just background atmosphere.
- Separate disputed event charges from the financial issue that actually creates urgency.
The playable case uses a fixed solution, cloud-saved progress and a ten-minute attempt window. You will need an account so the investigation state can be saved.
